‘XtraperriermenthaL’ by fat benjamin....

After 2007’s ‘the futureRUSTIC EP’ fat benjamin returns with a whole new EP and direction. Called ‘XtraperriermenthaL’ the new EP explores dark, mysterious and unsurprisingly given the title more experimental sounds.

After creating over 28 demo's for his proposed follow-up ‘plastic AMBUSH‘ fat benjamin realized that the material he had created fell into two distinct camps. One was a more digital tinged extension of the sound he explored in the previous EP and the other was a more far out sonic landscape that was less conventional in structure and texture. These more experimental instrumental tracks had been born from live jams just as the other tracks had but seemed darker than he had envisioned for ‘plastic AMBUSH’.

Fat benjamin says “ I wanted to release some new material to give people an idea of where I am going with my music now. It’s been almost 2 years since the futureRUSTIC EP and I felt that XtraperriermenthaL would be a great stepping stone from previous material and introduction to new listeners. This is more of a long form version of what I do. I think it’s important to explore releasing less accessible music rather than just leaving it on the cutting room floor because a track is over 5 minutes in length. I know it won’t be to everyone’s taste but hopefully it will excite some who hear it”.

Have a listen:

The first outing of The Big Hello Band was successfully pulled off at the Ferry Station in Bristol on 30th May 2009. It was a good laugh.

The plan is for the whole affair to be worked on and whittled down a little more before taking the performance to other venues.

There may be some image and video available in the soon time.

Sweet Potato - "MASH" - It's here...

A joint release with Records on Ribs, "MASH" is the first full-length album from Sweet Potato:

"Having released three albums of improvised recordings, Bristolian twenty-somethings Sweet Potato release Mash- a perverted rock album of note.

Lolloping, strangely propulsive rhythms underpin impressively enormous riffs and the operatic vocals of Stephen Baker, creating a record that has its fair share of headbanging moments, but retains a jazz sensibility throughout. Although decidely less pastoral, Mash brings to mind the Canterbury Scene in the way it toys effortlessly with generic conventions, yet manages to produce something considerably greater than the sum of its already impressive parts.

It’s available now for download or to buy (as a carbon neutral jewel cased CD with 8 page colour artwork) for a mere £5. It’s a co-release with the good people at Foetal Orange and an album we’re extremely proud to be putting out."

Spinlords of Spintania...

Good Afternoon,

Here we go, the first new release in a little while.

This collection of five tracks comes to you from the Spinlords of Spintania.

The music you will hear on your journey to Spintania is of a prog/fusion sort, wonderfully executed and recorded. A blend of outright heavy rock and melodic, what some might call "symphonic", passages. Full of bouncy licks, grooves and psychedelic schizouts; it provides everything you could ask for.

I can hear echoes of King Crimson filtered through all manner of other influences no doubt; Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Van der Graaf Generator, System of a Down, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Funkadelic, Frank Zappa, Gong, The Residents etc... All great stuff. But, of course, none of that means anything because the music of the Spinlords sounds like none of the above - they are the nearest points of reference; elements of my world-view which I use to explain my experiences (in this case auditory).

It is simply really great stuff, and I am sure that you will agree:

Marvelous.

Cat Green Bike...

Good Afternoon.

I just thought that I would point you in the direction of Cat Green Bike, for she has some lovely newly recorded tunes up on her player. Here is what she has to say about them:

"I now have three very nicely recorded tracks for your listening pleasure. They were recorded at home and mixed by Mr Glover. They are...

Palm Tight Pass
Rough Cut For A New Disco (Two Cars & A Crop) - NEW ONE!!!
Pretty Little Lob

I am currently painting the covers for a limited 44 copy run of Breakbeat/Thrash/Concrete, which holds these three tracks as well as Gone To Get Geese and Adventure Potential. These will be available at Ukuelear Meltdown on Saturday. If you can't make it to Newcastle, but would like one of these lovingly crafted ditties, you can ask me to post you one by emailing me at catgreenbike@hotmail.co.uk "

I do believe that her latest collection of tracks (Breakbeat/Thrash/Concrete) will be available to download from this very site in the very near future.

BBC Bristol Introducing... Suspended...

Good Morning,

Just days after BBC Bristol Radio Introducing played a track from us here, the show has been immediately suspended. Not because they played one of our tracks, but because they have accidentally allowed a few swear words to be aired. Things are getting ridiculous. VERY RIDICULOUS. They are doing a positive deed, for the benefit of many, and get stepped on by the man for the most petty of things.

What is going on?
